|
| Q: | What did the 520 conversion do for you? |
| A: | Most
high power bikes come with a 530 or 532 chain from the factory. My R6 came with a 532
chain as well but I wanted to shave some weight so I converted the chain and sprockets to
a 520 size. I also added 4 teeth to the rear sprocket to increase the acceleration. I
recommend adding to the rear as opposed to removing from the front although a 15/49 or
15/50 is not unheard of for racers or those who want to do wheelies on command. The 520 will not last as long as the 530 or 532 but that's really not the intention. Converting to a smaller chain and sprocket is typical of racers who frequently change parts anyway. 520 is also the most common found size at track vendors. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What parts do I need for the 49 state conversion? |
| A: | The
total conversion consists of 49 state OEM cams, 49 state OEM CDI black box, 48 tooth rear
sprocket, 49 state tach face and the removal of the emissions equipment. Camshaft 1 - Y5EB-12171-00-00 Camshaft 2 - Y5EB-12181-00-00 CDI Unit Assy - Y5MT-85540-30-00 <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What did the 49 state conversion do for you? |
| A: | I
gained about 9-10hp overall after performing the 49 state conversion, installing a Dynojet
kit and a ignition advancer (+4). It's hard to say exactly what the difference is without
the jet kit or advancer in the equation but my guess would be something like 6-7hp. The low-end suffered a little bit from all that work but the top-end is SCREAMING and I'm glad I did the conversion. I think it's a crime that the California model bikes are so much weaker. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | How do you like the Carbtune II? |
| A: | I like that tool a lot. I've used it a couple times and it worked great. The bonus with the Morgan's is they use small slider rods instead of mercury. You can find these at www.carbtune.com. They are made in the UK but shipping time is very quick. |
| Q: | How hard was it to install the jet kit? |
| A: | Actually
I had a local shop install my jet kit. It was just part of the whole package. I did take notes, however, and plan to perform future carb work myself. Carb kits are so developed now its much easier to install and usually come with detailed settings for each bike. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What kind of gains can I expect after installing the jet kit? |
| A: | The
biggest gain a jet kit has to offer is the effect on the powercurve. It smooths out the
edges and provides clean power delivery. There is a lot involved with tuning carbs and the best thing I can do is direct you to a very informational page on Factory Pro's website that goes over carb tuning in great detail. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | How do you like the BT010s compared to the stock 207s? |
| A: | I
went through a couple sets of 207s before I switched to the BT010s. I found the
Bridgestone's to be a little bit cheaper, last longer, turn-in better and grip just as
well as the 207s. It's a rider's choice when it comes to tires though. I plan on rotating through different brands just to feel the difference for myself. Maybe some Pilots next for street and Supercorsas for track. If you want someone else's opinion...check these scans out. If you want details on my opinion...check this out. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What do you recommend for tire pressures? |
| A: | Well
for legal purposes Ill state what the manual says: 36psi front and rear, 42 in the rear if
you have a passenger or weigh a lot. I find something a bit less is more appropriate for twisties or track. I ride with ~34psi in the front and rear for street riding, 32 in the front and 32-34 in the rear for twisties and even a little bit lower on the track maybe 31 front and 29 rear. Some like more some like less...it's up to your preference and riding style. However if your'e riding track tires...I strongly suggest 31 front and 29 rear. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What is the proper amount of static sag? |
| A: | There
is a detailed How-To on this subject which can be found here. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Did you install a Factory ignition advancer? |
| A: | No,
I did install a Graves adjustable advancer though. We though we would need the
adjustability to fine tune but ended up at +4 anyways so I might as well have bought the
fixed advancer from Factory for much less. The advancer alone increased my top-end by 2hp. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where did you get those flushmount indicators? |
| A: | The
indicators are Dussault's and can be found at www.graphicartmotodesign.com. Easy to
install and they look awesome. They aren't as bright as I hoped but replacing the stock
flasher relay with a heavy-duty relay helped that a little...and slowed down the flash
rate. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | How are the flushmounts secured to the fairing? |
| A: | They
are secured using 3M tape. When installed properly these things will never come off
unintentionally. Just make sure you heat them up before installing so they form properly
to the fairing. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where did you get that fender eliminator kit? |
| A: | There
are numerous sites online you can get these kits: www.hardracing.com
& www.competitionwerkes.com to name a
few. You can find info on my install here. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where did you get that DIGI? |
| A: | I
purchased mine from www.whitebuffaloracing.com.
You can also get them at Bohn Armor. You can find info on my install here. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Can you have passenger pegs with the 2bros high mount? |
| A: | Unfortunately
no you cannot. There are many other high mount cans that allow the passenger peg though:
Mig, Devil, Leo Vinci to name a few. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Do your heels touch the s-bend with the 2bros high mount? |
| A: | Yes
they do. I took care of that by purchasing a heat shield and haven't had any issues with
heel melting. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where did you get the blue tach face? |
| A: | I
also got this from Dussault at www.graphicartmotodesign.com. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What parts are need to convert to LED tail lights? |
| A: | I
pulled this info from www.sportbikeguy.com. Undertail section (with battery box) 5MT-8212B-00-00 * VERIFY COLOR BEFORE ORDERING! LED Tail Lights 5MT-84710-10-00 Conversion Braket (for tail section) 5MT-21611-00-P1 Battery (Gel type) GT9B-4 <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where do you ride locally? |
| A: | I
can be found amongst the Santa Cruz mountains most of the time. Hwy 9/35/84 and Alice's. When work permits I like taking weekdays off and riding to my heart's content without the interruption of jackass riders, cyclists, cars, pedestrians or cops. Hmmm...that sounds like the track! Funny how that is. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Where can I find other riders in the area? |
| A: | Online
- you can find Bay Area riders...at the Bay Area Riders Forum believe it or not. In person - Alice's restaurant (junction of Hwy 35 and 84 in Sky Londa above Woodside) is the major hang out on the weekends as well as the parking lot at the junction of Hwy 9 and 35 above Saratoga. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | What are some good roads to ride in the Bay Area? |
| A: | Check
out www.pashnit.com for some great roads. Excellent
site. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
| Q: | Do you have any helpful information for other bikes as well? |
| A: | At
the moment, most of my information is related to the R6, however, I do plan to start
accumulating good information for other bikes also...including HD and customs. I will
continue to add to this site as I acquire the information. <<BACK TO TOP>> |
