Raising the front fender

  The following is a simple "how-to" guide that should help in your modification of the front fender to accomodate a 70 size front tire. Depending on the make of your bike you might not need to make this modification.

1. You will need the following items to help with the modification:
* Liquid Steel or JB Weld
* Fine grit sandpaper
* Dremmel or rotary tool
* Masking tape
* Calipers or ruler with millimeter increments
* Fine tip pen or marker
2. Remove the front fender from the bike and take out the rubber grommets and washers.

3. I found the best way is to tape off the holes and mark where the old was and where the new will go. This way all the holes are drilled out evenly.
4. Use your dremmel tool and drill the existing holes down to allow the fender to sit higher in the forks. You really only need to drill out a few maybe 3-4 mm tops.

5. Now you will need to prepare the area for the application of Liquid Steel or JB Weld. Roughen up the edges with the dremmel or some sand paper and clean with alcohol to allow the putty to attach properly.
6. Follow the directions on whichever product you choose to use for this modification and apply a small amount to the top of the hole filling in the gaps and smoothing out as much as you can before it dries and hardens.
7. Allow the product to harden for the specified amount of time and then dremmel away the hole back to the original shape little by little being careful not to break the bond. If you used the tape guides it should be real easy to drill out the hole properly.
6. Remove the tape, if needed, and use the dremmel and/or some fine grit sandpaper to smooth all the edges, front and back, until the finish is suitable for touch up paint or a total repaint.

7. Most of the area will be hidden so it's really not that important to do this perfectly clean. I used a blue sharpie pen to touch up my messy sanding job and will repaint the whole fender some other time. It would look just fine with some regular touch-up paint.
Hope this helps...I'm sure there are other ways but this is the way I chose to do it so enjoy.
