This is a list of my R6 mods. You can see most of these on my photos page. If you have any questions or live in the Bay Area and need some help with a mod please email me and Ill do my best to help you out.
SLIP-ON - 2 Brothers hight mount titanium. Sweet sound, looks and performance. *Listen to R6 with 2bros slip-on*
520 CONVERSION - Sprocket Specialist 16t/50t and DID VM chain. Top speed was decreased but low end acceleration was increased. This is a great mod but it was really intended for track use and will have to be replaced more often than the stock 532 size chain and sprockets. *Gearing Calculator*
BRAKE LINES & PADS- Goodridge kevlar brake lines front and rear. EBC HH pads in the front. Excellent response and stopping power. Left a small amount of air in the rear line to lessen the chance of lock-up. *Install Photos*
SPEEDO CALIBRATOR - Yellow box from Black Robotics. *My Installation*
STEERING DAMPER- Scott's steering stabilizer. Excellent piece of equipment.
SEAT COWL- Factory blue yamaha seat cowl to clean up the tail.
SLIDERS - Intuitive Race Products frame, clutch, bar-end and rearstand sliders. Consider it extra insurance. *Installation Guide*
EURO HEADLIGHTS- Installed running/flasher lights in the headlight assembly using the stock license plate light and harness and a few nifty relays from Radio Shack. *Installation Guide*
FENDER ELIMINATOR- Competition Werkes fender eliminator kit. Includes stalk-mount LP clear flashers. *My Installation*
TURN SIGNAL INTEGRATOR- Sent my LED tail lights to M.D.Wright, Inc. and they integrated the flashers into the tail lights. Very clean install and they include a button to enable/disable the flashert function.
WINDSCREEN - ZG DB - clear.
QUICK RELEASE - IRP seat quick release pins. Easy install and better than removing a screw each time. Note: I recently found out they don't sell these anymore apparently on their website so allow me to find a suitable replacement link.
FLUSHMOUNTS - Robert Dussault's clear flushmount. Pretty much the best you can buy if you want a real flush mount. Visibility is less but can be enhanced with a new heavy-duty flasher relay.
GRIPS - Found some good Renthal grips I really like. They are the thin ones with tiny nubs. So far they have been the most comfortable for hard riding. I've tried the medium and soft compound and prefer the soft so far. Cut the old ones off...used hairspray to adhere the new ones...piece o' cake. *Photo*
COOLANT - Flushed coolant and replaced with Redline Watter Wetter and distilled water. Runs a couple degrees cooler now and is basically the only thing youre alllowed to use on the track. It is recommended that you only use it at the track though. If you mostly ride street then you should probably use a standard coolant mixture...this way you don't have to flush it out as often.
CASE COVERS - Replaced stock case covers with NRC. These are approved for racing. *My Installation*
JET KIT - Installed Dynojet Stage 1 Carb Kit.
49 STATE CONVERSION - Installed OEM 49 state cams and CDI.
IGNITION ADVANCER - Installed a Graves adjustable ignition advancer to maximize the jet kit and 49 state conversion.
REAR SHOCK - Replacing stock shock with Fox Racing Shox TC-R. Capable of adjusting compression, rebound and ride height.
SAFETY WIRE - Installing safety wire for track use. *MARRC Guide* *Photos of typical wiring* *LRRS Guide* *AFM Equipment Requirements*
GEAR INDICATOR - Installed a Datatool DIGI digital gear indicator. Purchased mine from White Buffalo Racing and you can also find one here. *My Install* *Wiring Diagrams*
GARAGE DOOR OPENER - OK so I went beyond tweaking...but I just couldnt help myself. I installed a garage door opener on the bike. *My Install*
MESH FAIRING INSERTS - Installed some mesh fairing inserts powdercoated black. Purchased these from FastStyles@aol.com. Note: I am told that he doesn't respond to any email contact so I can't assure you that he is still selling these. I will post a suitable alternate once I find it. *Photos*
70 FRONT TIRE - Made the switch to a 70 front tire so I raised the front fender a few mm and raised the forks in the tube 5mm to compensate. I recently raised the fork tubes an additional 4-5mm for a little more turn-in and I'm digging the results. *My Fender Raising Photos*
REARSETS - Installed some Vortex fixed rearsets. They put the pegs 1/4" up and 1/4" back. Purchased from kneedraggers.com for a reasonable price. *Photo*
SUSPENSION - Took my forks and shock to Aftershocks Suspension in Palo Alto, Ca. The installed new springs & fluid and revalved the forks, recharged and revalved the shock. Excellent shop. Excellent work. Excellent staff. Check out my suspension setup page for more information.
BATTERY - You probably know that 01-02 R6 batteries are crap if you found that chalky white substance on your swingarm, shock, etc. (battery acid). I will sacrifice the extra weight and use an older style battery that I know won't leak on my bike. Basically I just took a dremmel tool and knife and shaved off the lip of the battery tray and the mounting posts for a few electrical components. I also had to loosen up the ground wire a little so it would reach properly. The older battery is a few cm longer but it will all fit in there as can be seen in the photo.
