Installation of the "Yellow Box" on a 2001 R6

  The following is a simple "how-to" guide that should help in your installation of the yellow box from Black Robotics. You should read the instructions provided with the kit completely before starting this installation.

1.

Check out your goods. You should have a yellow box, a harness and a jumper. I'm pretty sure the jumper replaces the yellow box in the case that you want to remove it. This will allow the speedometer to work correctly without removing all of the wiring.
2. You will need the following items to help with the installation:
    * 2 Butt Splices
* 2 Tap Splices
* Electrical Tape
* Zip Ties
3. Locate the harness where you will be splicing into. It is located right above where the shifter rod meets the engine. There should be three wires coming from the speed sensor unit to the harness connector...Orange/Red, Pink, and Black/White.

4. Cut the zip ties that secure the harness bundle and you will be able to pull the harness out a little more so you can work on it. If you are real handy you can just disconnect the speed sensor.
5. I chose a simple place under the seat to house the unit and then ran the unit harness down to the harness where I will splice into. I also wrapped the harness in electrical tape all the way down to where it will be cut. This helps protect your wires and it helps you to guide the harness down through the bike.

6. Disconnect the harness connector and cut the shielding back a couple inches to give you some room to work. You will want to cut the Pink factory wire at least an inch or two from the connector to allow for error. Strip the ends of the Pink wires and attach a butt splice to each one.
7. Cut the unit harness wires with enough length to secure the harness and not create too much stress on any wires.
8. The Pink factory wire coming from the speed sensor should be connected to the White wire on the unit harness. The Pink wire going to the connector should be connected to the Green unit harness wire.
9. Now use your tap slices to connect the Red unit harness wire to the Orange/Red factory wire and the Black unit harness wire to the Black/White factory wire. See the unit instructions for wiring diagrams.

10. Now you can wrap the loose wire with some electrical tape if you want and secure into wire bundle with zip ties.

11. If all went well...you should see the unit light turn on and flash according to the manual when you turn on the ignition. If you don't see a light...something is not right. Check your connections and make sure the tap splices are making good contact.
12. Use the methods provided in your manual to find your ratio and set the dip switches on the unit accordingly. Until you figure it out just leave all the switches down in a neutral setting.

Mine worked out to a 8% error. I have a 16t/50t sprocket setup.
